MJS II: Environment pt. 1

Domain -> Ideas -> Concept -> Precedents -> Research -> Prototyping

Such a basic process, yet hard as hell! My group (Joyce, Iris, and I) have been brainstorming certain environments that we want to redesign. We narrowed it down to 2: the gym and a collective/family meal. After much discussion we settled with the gym environment, because the gym is still very much a binary system. Women locker room, Males locker room. Studies have shown that women spend more time on cardio machines, while males tend to dominate the weight section of the gym. 'Gymtimidation' is REAL!

Questions we've proposed:

1. How can we make various spaces of the gym more comfortable for all genders and gender non conforming individuals?

2. What form could this take?

Answers:

1. Wearable tech:

Woman are often stared at in the gym. The gym is suppose to be a judgement free zone, but in reality that's all people do. So to help women out, we thought to create yoga pants that distort the figure of the body when stared at. This would hopefully reduce verbal harassment for those who wear yoga pants outside of the gym.

2. All-gender locker room. This idea is a bit more speculative...
