MJS: FP: Thoughts^2

Aaanndd i'm back at the drawing board for this project. Classic.

I've decided to nix the usage of the term 'stereotype' for this project and i'm going to stick with 'labels'.

Let's step back a bit. Every time i've presented my idea, I have this negative tone to the idea labels and classifications, but if you think about it they're not all negative. You walk into a grocery store how do you know where the item you want is... you look at the large signage for each isle. Labels in the food market are key.

Now, labels exist within various professional fields: military and medicine. How can you tell a doctor from a nurse? How can you tell between sergeant and a private? Their clothes, their uniform. This is the most obvious form of labeling. This determines how you are going to interact with the individual.

Now my mind is moving more into the wearable tech side of things. What we I could make a digital name tag that already reveals information that you want people to know about you

2nd Idea:

I am going to create a wearable tech piece that will display the characteristics of the person wearing it so that we can reduce the amount of preconceived biases.

Questions/Feedback from class:

------

How do you create this sort of classification

Whats the mission more specific: create intersection in the real world

Girl scout badges vs boy scout badges ** (NYTIMES article)

speculative wearable device

If you reveal characteristics of another person through a label are you stopping natural conversation / interaction from happening?

A piece that shows connection between people

Smart name tag (CONTEXT)

Doable- communicating your point

Whats the modern day version of generated a family crest

Tribal signage
