'As speculative models of potential omniscience, omnipotence and supreme consciousness, artificial intelligences are, like aliens, rich poetic devices' - Nora N. Khan

As the world of ASI grows we as humans are imagining a world in which humans are bystanders, humans will not be the center of intelligence. It’s pretty comical though that we are considered to be the center of intelligence in the first place… but I digress. Yes, this can be a terrifying thought, but honestly sometimes I think that humans have had too much power for too long. This article has helped me realize that the way we define AI in physical, mental, social aspects will ultimately determine how they are created. Artificial Super intelligence will grow and improve based on their individual interpretation of what they see. So how the world is now, ASI’s will see and interpret whether humans, are a crazy, dumb, selfish, nice, loving, efficient species. Scary thought, huh? Khan goes onto to summarize Nick Bostrom’s ‘Superintelligence’.
Bostrom uses multiple metaphors in his book to describe ASI in a more imaginative paradigm shift. The various terms he uses a metaphors are Hurricane | Architect | Sovereign | Start System |Frontline | Search Party | Agent | Swarm | Scaffolding. I agree that Artificial Superintelligence and Artificial General Intelligence needs to defined in a more imaginative poetic manner, instead of using the tech jargon that not only confuses people but deters them from thinking that they could ever understand such a topic. As we start to think of ways to change the language around ASI Khan also encourages us to challenge the imagery associated with ASI. Human’s constructed the imagery of aliens as being that of a human but with a larger head, larger eyes, no private parts, and less fingers and toes. An alien does not need to look like this. It can be a physical movement, a shape, a system. I'm all about using more imaginative terminology and ideas to reshape how ASI is imagined and talked about.
